The Golden Compass is the first book of the dust series by Philip Pullman. It is incredibly well-written and a real treat for the imagination. The book is really descriptive and has the perfect balance between what’s real and what’s magic. I love magical realism and there are plenty of fairytale elements in The Golden Compass. The Golden Compass is a fantasy adventure film based on the book Northern Lights (which is titled “The Golden Compass” in North America), the first novel in Philip Pullman's trilogy His Dark Materials.
